Abstract
This study investigates the solubility of Saquinavir, a poorly water-soluble protease inhibitor, in various oils, surfactants, and cosurfactants using UV-Spectrophotometry. The solubility was evaluated in selected oils (Capmul MCM, Labrafil M1944 CS, Oleic Acid, and Olive Oil), surfactants (Tween 80, Cremophor EL, Gelucire 4414, Span 80, Solutol HS 15), and cosurfactants (Transcutol P, Propylene Glycol, Ethanol, Polyethylene Glycol 400). The findings indicate that Ethanol and Transcutol P provided the highest solubility for Saquinavir among the tested excipients, making them promising candidates for developing an effective self-emulsifying drug delivery system (SEDDS) for Saquinavir. This research lays the groundwork for further development of lipid-based formulations that could enhance the bioavailability of Saquinavir.
