Abstract
The implementation of Electronic Health Records (EHRs) in India is crucial for improving healthcare efficiency and patient outcomes in a diverse and populous country. This study explores the challenges and opportunities associated with EHR adoption, focusing on the impact of initiatives like the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) on promoting digitization and data sharing in the healthcare system. Through a mixed-method approach combining literature review and survey analysis, the research evaluates perceptions among healthcare professionals and the general public regarding EHR adoption and the ABDM. Findings suggest that while EHR adoption holds promise for enhancing healthcare coordination and patient care, challenges such as privacy concerns, accessibility issues, and data entry errors need to be addressed. The proposed EHR model aims to establish a unified platform for efficient recording and sharing of patient health information, emphasizing cloud-based infrastructure and interoperability. Recommendations include leveraging existing digital infrastructure, enhancing digital literacy among healthcare providers, and ensuring patient consent-driven information exchange. Ultimately, successful EHR implementation in India requires collaboration among stakeholders, investment in training and technology, and a commitment to privacy and security standards. Keywords: Electronic Health Records (EHRs), Healthcare digitization, Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), Challenges and opportunities, Interoperability and privacy
